Why So Many Leaders Miss Their Moment (And How You Won't!)
Aug 18, 2025
Will You Let Hesitation Steal Your Destiny?
There was a time in the history of Israel, during their wandering years in the wilderness, when God moved them into action.
“You have stayed at this mountain long enough.”
(Deuteronomy 1:6, NLT)
When Preparation Time Has Expired
Sometimes, your place of preparation and rest has expired.
Sometimes you’ve gotten enough direction.
Sometimes it’s time for action.
That was the case for the Israelites. They had left Egypt, the land of their captivity. They had been camped out at the foot of Mt. Sinai, receiving their instructions and discovering their new values under God’s leadership.
And now it was time to go into the Promised Land.
“Look, I am giving all this land to you! Go in and occupy it.”
(Deuteronomy 1:8, NLT)
The Trap of Hesitation
BUT someone had a suggestion that came from a spirit of hesitation rather than a motive of faith and obedience.
They said:
“First, let’s send out scouts to explore the land for us. They will advise us on the best route to take and which towns we should enter.”
(Deuteronomy 1:22, NLT)
Even Moses thought that sounded like a good idea. But it wasn’t God’s idea.
That plan opened the door for doubt to fester. The majority of the scouts came back with a bad report of the land. They were afraid of the challenges ahead.
And that was the turning point.
What should have been an 11-day journey from Egypt to the Promised Land became a 40-year season of wandering.
In fact, the journey took so long that none of the Israelite men who left Egypt with Moses—eyes wide at the opportunity for freedom and destiny—ever set foot in the land of their dreams. They all died in the desert.
They missed their moment.
All except two of them.
Your Moment of Decision
Question: Are you avoiding the very risk God told you to take?
-
What would it look like for you to step out in faith right now?
-
What change would you have to make?
-
What chance would you have to take?
-
Who would you need to tell?
-
What would you need to do next?
There’s a really good chance you already know the exact answers to those questions—deep in your soul.
The Faith of Joshua and Caleb
When the 12 spies came back from their scouting mission:
-
10 were convinced the giants were too big and powerful.
-
2—Joshua and Caleb—had the faith to go for it.
And 40 years later, they were the only two who had the thrill of seeing their God-given dream come to fruition.
A Whisper in Your Ear
I want to be like Joshua and Caleb right now, whispering in your ear:
"You can do it.
He will get you through it.
His power is bigger than the giants.
You don’t have to know everything about the road ahead.
You just have to follow His footsteps and take your next step.
Your destiny is about to unfold.
It’s time to be bold.
Don’t hold back.
Step out.
We’re with you.
He’s with you.
Let’s go!”
